Overview

Fix Windows Copilot being unavailable due to region restrictions, Microsoft account requirements, missing Windows updates, or organizational policies.

Key Details

  • Windows Copilot (now Microsoft Copilot) is an AI assistant integrated into Windows 11
  • Availability depends on region, Windows version, and Microsoft account type
  • Copilot requires Windows 11 23H2 or later with the latest cumulative updates

  • Copilot requires an active internet connection and a Microsoft account

Common Causes

  • Windows version older than 23H2 or missing required cumulative updates
  • Signed in with a local account instead of a Microsoft account
  • Organization has disabled Copilot through Group Policy or Intune MDM policies

Steps

  1. 1Update Windows to the latest version: Settings > Windows Update > Check for updates
  2. 2Check region: Settings > Time & Language > Language & region > ensure region supports Copilot
  3. 3Sign in with a Microsoft account if using a local account
  4. 4Enable Copilot in taskbar: right-click Taskbar > Taskbar settings > toggle on Copilot
  5. 5For managed devices, contact IT admin to enable Copilot through Group Policy or Intune
